Snowdrop Sundays - 10th & 17th February 2019 at Mapperton House & Gardens

Snowdrop Sundays at Mapperton

As the temperature continues to dip, visitors will enjoy a fortifying walk around Mapperton Gardens to see the annual flowering of galanthus nivalis, otherwise known as the snowdrop.  This year at Mapperton, Snowdrop Sundays are on 3rd, 10th and 17th February, from 11am-4pm.

Galanthus nivalisis Latin for milk-white flower of snow, and its arrival is sometimes interpreted as the first sign of spring.  However, the mild December means that – like last year – the snowdrops have flowered early at Mapperton, while spring is still weeks away.

Most of the snowdrops at Mapperton can be found in the arboretum, while other spring flowers have started to make an appearance in other parts of the garden, including crocuses, hellebores, camellias and of course daffodils.

After wandering the gardens, visitors will be welcomed at the recently renovated Coach House, serving coffees, teas and warming hot chocolate, alongside a range of delectable cakes and gourmet sandwiches.

Admission to Snowdrop Sundays is just £4.50 per person with under 16s free, payable on entry. Mapperton Estate will be making a donation to the National Garden Scheme from Snowdrop Sundays admissions.
